A water tank is the most vulnerable part of a humidifier. One of the circumstances (too numerous to mention them all) under which it can be accidentally damaged is when refilling it with water. The full tank can be dropped on the floor and be ruined, leaving behind a wet mess.
The question is, what do you do if this happens? Do you rush off to buy a new humidifier? No! Just order a new water tank - that's much cheaper than replacing the whole unit!
